Contest to raise interest in science

MORE than 100 students from 41 government and non-government primary schools participated in the Base (Brunei Association of Science Education) National Science Learning Resource Competition 2008, organised by the Ministry of Education and Brunei Shell Petroleum.
Also taking part in the competition in the secondary school category were another 102 students.
The theme for the competition was "Passion towards active learning Science and Technology". One of the main aim of the competition was to motivate students interest in science and technology. The competition encourages students to use science and technology in a new and creative way.
It is hoped that the competition will help implement the ministry's vision of the new education system, the 21st Century National Education System (SPN21).The new education system will be implemented to primary one students next year.
St.Andrews school emerged as champion for the secondary school category and Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Primary School won for the primary school category.
Whereas the Bendahara Lama primary school won for the best Base booth award.
Present to hand out the prizes during the competition was Datin Paduka Apsah Hj Abdul Majid, the Permanent Secretary (core education) of the Ministry of Education, who also serves as Patron for Base.
The winning students received their prizes and certificates at the Base National Science Project Certificate and Prize Presentation ceremony held at the Press Conference Hall of the ICC in Berakas yesterday. (AIS1) The Brunei Times
