Mathematics Treasure Hunt Activities by SR Pusar Ulak Blog Editor
Teachers from Sekolah Rendah Pehin Datu Jamil appeared as the winner of the first ever Mathematics Treasure Hunt Activities, 2008 held on 28th May 2008 at Pusar Ulak Primary School. Sekolah Rendah Bendahara Lama and Sekolah Rendah Raja Isteri Fatimah meanwhile came in second and third in the activities.
Present at the event were Senior officers from the Schools Department, Ministry Of Education, headmasters and headmistresses and teachers of Brunei I Primary Schools. The event’s guest of honour was Cikgu Hj Salim Bin Hj Muntol, the Senior Supervisor for Primary Schools in Brunei Areas I and III. He also presented prizes to the winners.
Over 12 groups of teachers from 12 Primary Schools in Brunei I participated in this activity. Teachers are expected to apply these activities with their students back in their own school. The activity aimed to motivates students to learn mathematics in a new learning process. It also enables the students thinking and problem solving skills and at the same time giving the students opportunity to work together as a team.
The event began with a recital of the Surah Al-Fatihah led by Ustaz Md Deli Bin Kamarulzaman. The Headmistress of SRPU, Hjh Salwati Bte Hj Mohd Sulaiman, which acts as the Chairman for the Treasure Hunt Activities, delivers a welcoming speech in which she applauded the teachers for continuing to supports and committed in the academic programs organized by Academic Bodies of Brunei I. She also stressed on the importance of teachers to find ways to improve the quality of teaching Mathematics not only for the Upper Primary Level but also from the Lower Primary Level as well.
One of the highlights of the event was a brief talk presented by Dr Leong Yong Pak, a Senior Lecturer from University Of Brunei Darussalam to participants before the activities began.
